Branch County Nominating Convention 2022

The Branch County Nominating Convention will convene on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 11 AM in person at the Coldwater Public Library. 

Overview

In accordance with the Call to Convention issued by the State Central Committee for the State Nominating Convention scheduled for August 20-21, 2022, County and Congressional District Conventions are to be held statewide on Saturday, August 6th , 2022.

County Conventions must be held in all counties within the 1st through 8th and 10th Congressional Districts under the 2020 Michigan congressional district map. In those counties comprised of more than one Congressional District, each portion of the county within one Congressional District will be considered a “county” and will hold a convention on August 6, 2022. Each convention will convene at the time and hour designated in the Call issued by each County or District Committee.

District conventions must be held in the 9th , 11th , 12th , 13th , and 14th Congressional Districts under the 2020 Michigan congressional district map on August 6th , 2022 at the place and hour designated in the Call issued by each Congressional District Committee.

The calls to County and District Conventions must be issued to the delegates not less than fifteen (15) days before the Convention is held on August 6, 2022, so by July 22, 2022.

Purpose of Local Conventions:

The purpose of the conventions will be to elect members and alternates to each of the three convention committees: Rules, Resolutions, and Credentials. The secondary purpose of these conventions will be to consider resolutions and platform planks to be forwarded to the state party for consideration.

Eligibility:

Article III Sections 3.2 Voting Privileges of the MDP Rules stipulate the following qualifications for candidacy and eligibility to vote:

Delegates to County and Congressional District Conventions shall be the Precinct Delegates who were duly elected at the Primary Election held August 2, 2022, the Democratic nominees for County and Legislative offices as set forth in section 3.2.2 of the MDP bylaws, and members of the Michigan Democratic Party whose membership was renewed at least thirty (30) days prior to the County or District Convention held on August 6, 2022, which is July 7, 2022.

Please see the Suggested Allocations for the three convention committees. Please note these are suggestions, please work with your Congressional District chair to approve appointments to the Committees.

Committee Meetings:

Rules Committee

Date: Tuesday, August 9, 2022

Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM ET

Place: Meeting will be held virtually

Agenda: The Rules Committee will approve the final version of the rules that will oversee all business at the Nominating Convention. Members of the Rules Committee are not required to attend the Nominating Convention.

Resolutions Committee

Date: Wednesday, August 10, 2022

Time: 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM ET

Place: Meeting will be held virtually

Agenda: The Resolutions Committee will discuss, edit, and vote on a number of resolutions with the ultimate goal of creating a packet of resolutions that will go before the entire membership at the Nominating Convention for a vote. Members of the Resolutions Committee are not required to attend the Nominating Convention.

*If work is not completed by the scheduled time of adjournment, the Resolutions Committee shall reconvene on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 6:00 PM.

Credentials Committee

Date: Saturday, August 13, 2022

Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Place: Meeting will be held virtually

Agenda: The Credentials Committee shall meet to discuss and receive training on the credentialing process for the State Nominating Convention. Members of the Credentials Committee are encouraged to help fellow Democrats in their County and District to become credentialed.

Additionally, members are encouraged to provide staff support with credentialing at the Nominating Convention on Saturday, August 20th. Members of the Credentials Committee are asked to attend the Nominating Convention to assist with the credentialing process, which requires a comfortability with technology.
